PDP Rejects Shift In Election Dates, Demands Immediate Resignation Of INEC’s Chair

PDP REJECTS SHIFT IN ELECTION DATES, DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION OF INEC’S CHAIR

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP has registered its displeasure over the announcement by the INEC Chair, Mahmood Yakubu few hours ago that the Presidential and National Assembly elections formerly scheduled to hold today stand postponed to a later date.

 

The major opposition Party in threads of tweets on the heels of the announcement in the early hours of this morning made its position known through its Party Chairman, Chief Uche Secondus who after rejecting the announcement by INEC regarded the shift in election date as an agenda from the Presidency to hold on to power against the will of Nigerians thereby, calling for the immediate resignation of the INEC boss.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered from the official handle of the party’s Chair, @UcheSecondus who alleged that the unpreparedness of INEC which warranted the shift was a deliberate attempt from the Umpire to sabotage the electoral process as designed by the President. He also warned INEC to stay clear from manipulating the electoral process.

 

“The People’s Democratic Party, @OfficialPDPNig rejects shift in election date. The postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections by INEC is an agenda by President @MBuhari to cling to power. I hereby call on @inecnigeria Chairman to resign immediately.”

 

“The shoddy arrangement for this election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, @inecnigeria is a deliberate predetermined agenda of President @MBuhari to cling on to power even when it’s obvious to him that Nigerians want him out.”

 

“The postponement which is part of a grand design by the All Progressives Congress, @OfficialAPCNg, to thwart the will of Nigerians at all cost, clearly exposes @inecnigeria as a failure and I call on the Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu to resign immediately.”

 

“I want to warn that the party, @OfficialPDPNig, will not accept anything short of a well organized electoral process devoid of manipulation, harassment and intimidation of voters and the opposition particularly members of the @OfficialPDPNig.” He tweeted.

Uche Secondus further alleged that the postponement was a last resort by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to remain in power after exploring all other options like destroying of electoral materials to scuttle official processes.

 

The PDP Chair also seem to be firing on all cylinders when he indicted the ruling party of several machinations to cling to power which included the killing of over 60 persons in Kaduna State as a ploy to scare voters from coming out on election day.

 

In his concluding tweets, he accused Buhari on reneging on the Peace Pact he recently signed to promising to ensure hitch free polls.

“Having failed in all their nefarious options to enable them cling on to power, the @APCNigeria and the @inecnigeria came up with the idea of shifting election, an action that is dangerous to our democracy and unacceptable.”

 

“The @OfficialAPCNg in connivance with the @inecnigeria have been trying all options including but not limited to burning down INEC offices in some states and destroying of electoral materials to create artificial problems upon which to stand for their dubious act.”

“I want to draw the attention of all lovers of democracy to the statement of President @MBuhari on the international media that nobody can unseat him from office as an indication of what he wants to do.”

 

“It is regretful that President @MBuhari who made a promise at the signing of National peace accord that the election will be conducted in a fair and transparent atmosphere.”

You will recall that BlackBox Nigeria had earlier reported a possible postponement following discoveries that the commission wasn’t ready for the elections as sensitive materials were yet to be distributed to centres across the country as at 10pm Nigerian time.

 

INEC had tweeted earlier that the Elections will now hold on; 23rd February, 2019 for Presidential and National Assembly while the Governorship, State House of Assembly and the FCT Area Council Elections is to hold on 9th March, 2019.
