The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the suspension of its Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagum, and Acting National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
The suspension was announced in a statement issued today, pending investigations by the National Disciplinary Committee.
The NWC’s action was prompted by a letter that was reportedly sent to the Court of Appeal, which contradicted the party’s official position on a significant legal issue. According to the press release, the NWC denounced this action as a direct violation of the PDP Constitution and the officials’ oath of office.
“The NWC condemned this anti-party activity of the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary which is in gross violation of the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and their Oath of Office.
In accordance with Sections 57, 58, and 59 of the PDP Constitution, Amb. Illiya Damagum and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu have been suspended from their respective positions. They are barred from participating in any NWC activities, pending the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings.” the statement reads
The suspensions come shortly after the NWC took similar action against the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN.
