PDP Criticised Tinubu’s Ambassadorial List Over Integrity and Image Concerns

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s newly released list of ambassadorial nominees, arguing that the selections do not meet the standards required for individuals who are expected to represent Nigeria in key foreign missions.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party said the list contains individuals with public records that, in its view, undermine the moral and ethical stature expected of diplomats. The PDP argued that some nominees have faced long standing questions around integrity, conduct, and respect for democratic norms, making their selection unsuitable for positions that require strong national representation.

The party noted that ambassadors play important roles in sustaining Nigeria’s global partnerships, attracting investments, and defending the country’s interests abroad. It warned that deploying controversial or politically polarising figures could damage Nigeria’s credibility at a time when the nation requires stronger diplomatic leverage.

According to the PDP, the compilation of the list reflects a governance culture that places political considerations above national reputation. It emphasised that the President had sufficient time to assemble a credible team and expressed disappointment that the final list failed to reflect transparency, merit, and broad public confidence.

The PDP described the nominations as scandalous and unacceptable, insisting that Nigeria’s diplomatic posts must be reserved for individuals whose careers demonstrate integrity and commitment to public service. It called for an immediate withdrawal of the list and urged the President to present nominees who can enhance Nigeria’s global standing and uphold the nation’s democratic values.
