The Federal Government has concluded plans to launch a set of policies to unbundle the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST), the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of NIPOST revenue stamp in Abuja, the minister said that the unbundling would transform its operations and make it innovative.
He said, “We have so many policies of transforming NIPOST in the pipeline and part of it will unbundle NIPOST. We also have the ACT of NIPOST going into amendment.
“We have a plan with a property and development company, the company will bring together all the properties of NIPOST, develop them and make sure that the government generates revenue from them.
“All generated revenue will go into developing sectors like health, education, agriculture, security and other social developments.”
The minister added that part of the NIPOST unbundling include the restructuring of its transport and logistics, courier services and microfinance bank.
Expressing optimism in the potentials of NIPOST to become a world-class outfit, Pantami praised stakeholders for their unrelenting efforts in remodelling and recording modest achievements recently.
The Nigerian Senate had, in June, passed Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) repeal and re-enactment bill, 2021, seeking to unbundle the outfit for efficient service delivery by creating a commission to regulate its affairs.
