The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, on Monday visited the Ikorodu General Hospital over possible index coronavirus cases, Blackboxnigeria gathered.
BlackBox Nigeria learnt that an unidentified patient, whose history and symptoms were consistent with that of coronavirus, was taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital, on Sunday morning, by family members.
The patient was returned home by her relatives after a doctor, seeing the symptoms advised them to take her to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH.
The patient who later died Sunday evening was rushed back into the Emergency Room by the family a few minutes before her death with the family still concealing her health history and allowing doctors to attend to her.
Following her death, the NCDC was invited to run a test for COVID-19 on the deceased, which came back positive.
One of the female nurses who spoke with BlackBox Nigeria said, ” the patient was brought to the General Hospital on Sunday morning, when the Doctor noticed symptoms of COVID-19, she was referred to LUTH, but the families took her home only to return her in the evening with severe condition.
“She died afterwards and her sample was taken for confirmation. The result came back yesterday positive I must admit.”
Medical personnel who without personal protective equipment attended to the deceased without prior knowledge of her health history have been isolated while contact tracing procedures have been initiated.
When BlackBox Nigeria called the Ikorodu General Hospital Public Relations Officer, Mr Yekini, to get details of the deceased, he said our correspondent should come to the hospital on Monday for more information.
