The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has denied any involvement in a school or building project outside Oyo State, as well as any role in the planning or hosting of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo’s coronation ceremony.

The clarification was made in a strongly worded statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Oyetunji Oyekunle, who described recent claims circulating online and in some quarters as “false and mischievous.”

Titled “FAKE NEWS,” the statement condemned the allegations as attempts to tarnish the image of the Speaker and mislead the public amid heightened political discourse surrounding traditional institutions and development projects in the state.

“It has been brought to our notice some unscrupulous remarks and speculations regarding the Rt. Hon Speaker’s community interests,” the statement read.

“As responsible public servants, we uphold the values of transparency and accountability to those we serve; therefore, we categorically state: The Rt. Hon Speaker has never initiated or contributed towards any school or building project outside Oyo State. The Rt. Hon Speaker was not involved in the planning of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo Coronation nor did he invite any guests in attendance.”

Oyekunle further called on members of the public to disregard what he called “baseless and divisive elements” seeking to sow discord.

“We urge those spreading falsehoods to refrain from dividing the peace and unity amongst us while we continue to focus on our service to the good people of Oyo State,” he said.

The statement reaffirmed the Speaker’s dedication to his responsibilities and ongoing commitment to developmental initiatives that benefit the people of Oyo State.

Ogundoyin, who has served as Speaker since 2019 and was recently re-elected, continues to play a prominent role in legislative leadership at the national level through his position as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers.
