Hon. Babajimi Benson, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has provided over 600 conjoined two-seater desks and chairs to 12 public secondary schools. The intervention aims to address the growing concerns over inadequate classroom facilities in the constituency.

The schools benefiting from this distribution include Ikorodu Grammar School, Yewa Grammar School, and Odokekere Community Junior School, among others spread across Ikorodu Local Government and its five Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

Speaking at the event, principals and teachers shared the challenges they had faced due to overcrowded classrooms. “Before this donation, some students had to sit on the floor or share limited desks,” one teacher revealed. “This initiative is a much-needed relief.”

Students also expressed their excitement, with many describing the new furniture as a morale booster. “Now we can focus better on our studies,” said a student from Yewa Grammar School.

The project, carried out in partnership with the iCare Foundation, highlights a collaborative effort to improve education infrastructure in the constituency.

Benson, while commending the foundation’s role, reiterated his commitment to creating an enabling environment for learning. “This project is about more than desks and chairs; it’s about empowering the next generation with the resources to achieve their dreams,” he stated.

The donation underscores an ongoing struggle many public schools face—insufficient resources for their growing student populations. Education advocates in Ikorodu have called for more such interventions, urging both government and private stakeholders to support public schools in addressing infrastructure gaps.

As the furniture is put to use, it is expected to not only ease classroom overcrowding but also foster a more positive and productive atmosphere for both students and teachers, setting a new standard for education in Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
