The financial burden of some students of the Lagos State University (LASU) is set to be lifted after the management announced a 50 per cent refund of tuition fees for students who maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.50 in every session.

LASU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello stated this during the 2020/2021 matriculation ceremony of 6,648 student in various academic programmes of the institution, on Monday.

She explained that the policy is to make room for healthy competition among students and reward those with excellent performance across the institution thereby making them conscious academically.

“We are committed to excellence and determined to emerge as the best university in the West Africa region. Our students’ welfare is top on our priorities as we will ensure that the learning environment remains conducive for learning.

“My dear matriculating students, please note that the distance between matriculation and convocation ceremonies is quite wide and yet so close, it is important that the journey ends successfully,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the matriculating students to make class attendances, do all assignments, desist from deviant behaviours, abstain from indecent dressing and others.

She warned, “The university has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractices, corruption and hooliganism. Those found culpable will be dealt with in line with their disciplinary mechanisms.”

Also speaking at the event, the Acting Dean of the Students Affairs Division, Dr Tajudeen Olumoko stated that the main purpose of the ceremony was to get the students familiar with the fundamental principles, norms and culture of the institution.

He added that it is a responsibility of the students to abide by all rules and regulations of the institution.
