By Outrage As Buhari’s Aide Promises To Influence Judge Over Child Trafficking And Sexual Exploitation Case
The Special Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad on Friday promised a Twitter user to intervene in getting a favourable judgement for a child trafficking suspect.
BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the Federal High Court in Yenagoa had on Friday, May 22nd, 2020 sentenced Yunusa Dahiru (aka Yellow) to 26 years imprisonment for child trafficking and sexual exploitation of Ese Oruru.
It will be recalled that the suspect, Dahiru reportedly kidnapped Ese, a 13yr-old girl in 2015 from her hometown in Bayelsa State and took her to Kano State where she was allegedly forcefully married off and was later impregnated without the knowledge of her parents.
Reacting to the judgement, one Hammad Yusuf Saleh took to the trendy micro blogging app, Twitter and asked presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad to intervene in upturning the conviction by the court which he stated has been manipulated and case needs to be appealed.
His tweet reads, “Please Bashir, do something about Yunusa Yellow for Allah’s sake, he is wrongly accused and sentenced, the whole matter is manipulated, we need to appeal for him.”
While responding to this tweet, the presidential aide disclosed that though he doesn’t have the direct powers to do anything but he will intervene to influence a favourable judgement, a response he gave using his local Hausa language to a request that was written in English.
Bashir said, “My brother, I do not have the power to do anything against the judgment of the court, but I will try to contact those whom I think are capable.”
Bashir’s response has since generated outrage from Nigerians who have called out the media aide for attempting to influence the judgment passed by the Judiciary. He was also accused of sabotage as he deliberately responded to the tweet in the local dialect which isn’t understood by a handful of his followers.
