The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through its Returning Officer Prof. Joseph Afuwape in the early hours of today has declared the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Gboyega Oyetola the governor-elect of Osun State having emerged the winner of the gubernatorial polls with a margin of 482 votes.

While declaring the results at exactly 1:23 am, the returning officer affirmed that the APC candidate has satisfied the provisions of the law and is hereby declared the winner.
“Oyetola, having satisfied the requirement of the law, having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected” he declared.

The announcement was as a result of the yesterday’s supplementary election organised in seven units across four local government areas where election could not hold last week Saturday or was cancelled.

The APC candidate scored 1,160 votes, in addition to his 254,345 votes from the first ballot to take his total tally to 255,505 votes.
Senator Ademola Adeleke, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate scored 325 votes in addition to his 254,698 votes from the first ballot to take his total tally to 255,023 votes.

One would recall that Saturday’s election was declared inconclusive by INEC due to the magin of lead being lower than the number of cancelled votes in the disputed areas.
