Osun Court Remands Monarch, Pastor, Others In Prison For Involvement In Ife Clash

A traditional monarch, a clergyman and others have been remanded in prison for their involvement in the Ife clash that recorded many causalities.

The suspects who pleaded not guilty to the 14 count charges which included murder, robbery, arson and others were arraigned before by Justice Kudirat Akano of Osun State High Court.

The monarch, Oba Ademola Admiluyi, Pastor Taiwo Fakowajo, Eluwole Akeem, Jimoh Sakiru, Daniel Olanrewaju and Bamidele Elurisanmi were all remanded for roles played during the clash.

According to a report by Nig Politics Online, the Prosecutin Counsel, Mr Simon Lough told the Court that the accused persons conspired to murder 46 persons of Hausa tribe on 6th, 7th and 8th of March, 2017 at Sabo area of Ile-Ife, Osogbo.

He also stated that the accused persons committed robbery while armed as they robbed 27 persons and made away with properties worth millions of Naira during the three days that the violence lasted in the ancient city.

Mr Loguh further said the accused persons conspired to inflict injuries on 96 persons through the use of knives, cutlasses and bottles (broken). They also caused damages as about 21 shops were set ablaze, destroyed 3 Police patrol vans while disturbing the public peace.

After all the suspects pleaded not guilty for the charges, the Defence Counsel, Mr Murtala Agboola applied for the bail of the suspects.

In her ruling, Justice Akano denied the suspects bail and ordered that they all be remanded in prison custody.

The case for the 14 count charges against the suspects is to commence on June 14th and elapse on June 16th, 2017. the Prosecutin Counsel stated that the three days highlighted for hearing of the case was to make sure justice is not denied.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Agboola stated that he will still file formally for the suspects bail as directed by the Chief Judge.

It was gathered that the State of Osun Police Command is on the trails of other suspects who are currently on the run as they will all appear for prosecution of crimes committed.
