All eyes will be on star striker, Victor Osimhen as he is set to captain the Super Eagles in their much-anticipated AFCON 2025 quarter-final match against Morocco.
The decision comes after regular team captain, Wilfred Ndidi, was ruled out of the fixture due to suspension following the accumulation of yellow cards earlier in the tournament.
Osimhen, who has been instrumental in Nigeria’s strong campaign so far, previously wore the captain’s armband in the final group stage match against Uganda and led the team during the closing minutes of the quarter-final win over Algeria. His leadership, energy, and determination on the field have earned him the trust of both the coaching crew and teammates.
Head coach Éric Chelle believes Osimhen’s presence as captain will inspire the squad as they prepare to face hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
The Galatasaray forward has already netted four goals in the tournament and is expected to play a pivotal role in what promises to be a tense and high-stakes encounter.
Kick-off is scheduled for Wednesday night, with Nigeria aiming to secure a place in the AFCON final and possibly clinch their fourth continental title.
