Victor Osimhen was named Man of the Match after his decisive goal gave Galatasaray a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night in Istanbul.
The Nigerian striker scored in the 16th minute from the penalty spot after Baris Alper Yılmaz was brought down by Dominik Szoboszlai. His finish turned out to be the only goal of the game.
Liverpool tried hard to respond but could not break down Galatasaray’s defence. A late penalty claim was also overturned by VAR, adding to their frustration.
The Premier League side suffered further setbacks as goalkeeper Alisson Becker and forward Hugo Ekitike went off injured.
Osimhen’s impact earned him the Man of the Match award. Speaking after the game, he said the win was a result of teamwork and praised coach Okan Buruk for the victory.
The result gave Galatasaray a valuable three points, while Liverpool will now look to recover after a difficult night in Istanbul.
