Hoodlums have continued to cause unrest in Itire, Ijesha area of Mushin Local government, Lagos, where one person was injured and many vehicles were damaged.
The incident which started around 8:30pm on Friday saw many vehicles destroyed in kushimo, oshidero, olayinka, adigun and Adebayo rufai Streets.
According to residents who spoke with Nigeria Politics Online correspondent said the attack was the third in space of a month describing it as riot, war and inhumane.
According to Otubela Ganiyu a residents in Itire road, he described the incident as very terrible and annoying.
“Actually I wasn’t at the scene, but I later heard that those boys were more than seventy in numbers, coming all the way from Olayinka street with bottles, cutlasses and other weapons, so boys in my street had to faced them, it was a terrible thing as they damage lots of cars, burgled people’s shops and took away phones and properties like that”.
Another residents and vibrant leader in the community, AbdulRasheed Salau Jimba described it as war and lawlessness.
In his word ” I will describe this incident as civil war because it looks like a war. When the whole community was held on siege and nobody could come out and we were all calling our loved ones from outside not to come home, some even slept outside because they can’t come home.”
He continued, “And this is not the first time, the other time I lost my tyres to the bottles that was broken on the streets which caused me like N15,000 to repair and in fact it is just a state of lawlessness.
An eye witness, who fled after seeing the hoodlums coming, Kehinde Adepate, said the boys were too much in numbers and the unfortunate part is that majority of them are teenagers under 23years of age.
Meanwhile, the residents reacted to the input of the Nigeria Police force as embarrassing and annoying.
Ganiyu said, “this is not the first time they came, like two weeks ago, they did the same thing, yesterday when they came, people were calling the Itire police station but there was no quick response from them until everything had gone down before they came, so I don’t know the kind of police we are operating.”
Salau Jimba has advised everyone to have the emergency number 767 with them. ” I think having the emergency number is more effective than calling the DPO.
