It was a black Saturday for some residents, including students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA) in Ondo State when a truck, conveying bags of cement, ran into them at the institution’s gate, leaving them dead or injured.
BlackBox Nigeria learnt that the truck, belonging to the Dangote Group suffered brake failure and rammed into shops in the area.
Meanwhile the management of the Ondo State Government-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, has reacted to the unfortunate incident, saying it received the news with “great shock.”
In a statement by the Acting Registrar, OpeOluwa Akinfenwa, the institution said it has postponed indefinitely, the examinations scheduled to commence on Monday, January 24.
The management commiserated with the affected families, the university community and the Akungba community in general on the sad incident, adding that it is working with the State government to prevent a reoccurrence.
The statement read, “As a mark of respect for our departed students, the examinations scheduled to start on Monday, 24th January, 2021, is hereby postponed till further notice.”
“We appeal to our students to remain calm, as the University mourns those that lost their lives in this unfortunate incident.
“The University and the Ondo State Government are working round the clock to institute permanent solutions to the problem of incessant road accidents along Ikare-Akungba road,” it added.
