Nigerian artistes, Omah Lay and Tems, on Tuesday, regained freedom from police custody in Uganda, following their reported arrest on Monday for violating the country’s COVID-19 guidelines.
The duo was arrested for performing at a concert and charged with “Negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious diseases.”
This development was confirmed by the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who took to her Twitter account to announce that both singers are currently with the Nigerian mission in Uganda.
She initially tweeted, “Temilade ( Tems) has been freed and handed over to the Nigerian mission in Uganda. Omah Lay @Omah_Lay is expected soon @PeterPsquare. And finally, @Omah_Lay arrives to the safe hands of officials of the Nigerian mission in Uganda @PeterPsquare. Finally, finally . The journey home will soon begin but they are safely at Nigeria house in Uganda.”
