Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph, is once again thankful for surviving a near-fatal car accident on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Kara along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Olympic gold medalist, who was refueling at a filling station near Ojodu Berger, Lagos, narrowly escaped harm when a fully loaded truck veered off the road and collided with his SUV, leaving it beyond repair.

Dosu, 51, shared the harrowing experience on social media, expressing his gratitude to God for sparing his life. “To God be the glory, another death escaped by Grace and Mercy of God,” he wrote. He recounted how the truck, with registration number LND 470 XX, crushed his vehicle while he and his friend were at the station.

This marks the second major accident Dosu has survived. In 1997, just a year after leading Nigeria to victory in the 1996 Olympics, he was involved in a car crash along Ikorodu Road, Lagos, which severely damaged his spinal cord and prematurely ended his football career at the age of 23.

Dosu reported the latest incident to the Isheri Police Station, where the driver of the truck has been detained. The truck’s owner has indicated that repairs for Dosu’s wrecked SUV cannot be addressed until next year.
