Oluwole Adetiran, man who composed NYSC anthem, is dead

Dr. Oluwole Adetiran, the composer of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) anthem, is dead.

It was gathered that he breathed his last on Friday, following a protracted battle with multiple illnesses. He was aged 74.

Until his death, Adetiran was the National Music Director of Celestial Church of Christ (CCC).

The deceased, who studied music at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, composed the NYSC anthem while serving as a corps member in Oyo State in 1984.

Adetiran also served as the Head of Music Department at the Polytechnic, Ibadan, between 2003 and 2007 before his retirement from the institution in 2008.

Last year, NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, accompanied by top officials of the scheme, paid a visit to the residence of Adetiran in Ibafo, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

During the visit, the late musicologist revealed that he had been inflicted with multiple diseases, including hypertension, diabetes and prostate cancer since 2018.
