Opposition they say is one of the fundamentals modern democracies thrive on. As the 2019 general elections approaches, political actors both at state and federal levels either executive and legislative wise, have begun to educate and inform their prospective electorate and electorates too in turn, are beginning to ask germane questions on how their political fate will pane out for the next four years.

 

Speaking of posing a formidable opposition and seeking viable alternatives through active electioneering campaign, The political activities of Mr. Oluwadare Samuel Kafisewon popularly known with the acronym ‘OSK’ in Badagry Constituency 1 is gradually beginning to gain momentum as build up to the Lagos State House of Assembly 2019 election.

Born 17th January 1987 to the family of Mr. Johsnon Oluwafemi Kafisewon and Late Mrs. Adenike Oluwafunmilayo Kafisewon of Imeke, Badagry Division of Lagos State, Nigeria. Oluwadamilare Samuel Kafisewon holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical & Polymer Engineering (Class of 2010), Lagos State University (LASU), Master of Business Administration specializing in Marketing (Class of 2016), Lagos State University. He is also a Professional Member of Chartered Institute of Public Management (CIPM) and an Associate Member National Institute of Marketing Nigeria (ANIMN).

 

OSK, the flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP) for the Badagry Constituency 1 seat at the Lagos House of Assembly in the 2019 elections, has gradually pulled crowd of supporters over the past months since his declaration and he is gradually obtaining the buying of the masses through his massive publicity as you barely get passed any major streets within the Constituency without noticing his posters.

The 31 year old opined that he is vying to represent Badagry Constituency 1 as a member of the 9th assembly in the Lagos State House of Assembly because he has over the past years, acquired the capacity to deliver good governance to the people of his constituency who desire to see the dividends of democracy materialize.

 

In his words while revealing his intentions for running for office captured in his official manifesto tagged My Vision for Badagry, “We need humans with quality, ability and agility and these are the qualities the best critics that I have known have agreed that I possess. Basically, my style of leadership is inclusive government. I assure that I will bring socio -economic development to this constituency through participatory approach to ensure that the constituents are carried along in the prioritization, design, implementation, and evaluation of projects.”

 

OSK, has further assured in his manifesto that his mission is to develop and enhance a healthy and reliable relationship between his constituents and their representative in the hollowed chambers for a more people oriented and people centred policies in the developmental process of Badagry Constituency 1 of Lagos State.

The make Badagry great again proponent, on the heels of his declaration, reeled out a eight-point agenda, regarded as the basic tenets that will guild badagry to the proverbial promise land.

 

The first component of this agenda is tagged “Ikoko Obe”, this component is to make food items available for the aged within the constituent as a monthly allowance of ₦2,000 will be made available.

 

The second component is tagged “Owo-Arugbo” which is aimed at promoting the dignity in labour and pay a weekly allowance of ₦1,000.00 to adults that are 70years and above in the constituency.

 

Healthcare is the third provision in the eight point agenda. This according to the aspirant will enable supporting and equipping existing health care centres while building new ones.

Free evening / holiday summer classes and free buses represent the fourth and fifth provision in his detailed agenda in the quest to provide scholarship and free buses to convey students of both primary and secondary public students to and fro within the Constituency.

 

Further to the above, issues bothering on poverty alleviation / job creation, Inter school / club sports competition and Bursary awards are also contained in the eight point agenda.

 

According to the campaign team of OSK, these components boldly written in his official manifesto will help the artisans, market woman, traders to secure interest free loans to expand their businesses. Promotion of schools, youths interaction will also be encourage to discover talents. It will also see to the payment of ₦5,000.00 yearly bursary to some tertiary institution students within the constituency.

 

The Badagry son of the soil has continue to advocate as part of his mantra the need for a productive relationship between the executive and legislative representatives of a constituency as key ingredient in moving such a constituency forward and calls on all and sundry to support his ambition.

 

“Together, we will witness the changes and the advances that our communities desperately need. Together as a collective unit, the people of Badagry can begin to lay claim to better education, health and social services. Together, we will begin to create opportunities for new jobs, open the door to new ideas, better government and representation. Together, as a people, we can face our challenges. And I invite you to this new, exciting journey for Badagry,” his manifesto statement reads.

 

Oluwadamilare Samuel Kafisewon is a Business Development Manager with years of experience and has covered a wide range of field that includes Marketing, Treasury Operations, Internal Control, Human Resources and Telecommunication in Nigeria.

 

With his heightened electioneering activities, one will wonder if OSK is poised to be one of the youngest lawmaker ever produced by the Constituency as he continues to prove to be a force to be reckoned with.

    Think we are getting closer to getting it right in Badagry polity. We have never have it so open and pragmatic. For almost 20 into our quest for a responsive and responsible leadership, true representation has always been sacrificed on party supremacy where mediocrity has been cultivated and nurtured. Big relief now that brighter and independent minds like OSK are coming up to serve.
