Olumayowa Elegbede Outsmarts Nigerian Government, Buys Nigeria Air Domain, Wants To Sell For N24 Million
One Smart Nigerian youth identified as Olumayowa Elegbede is teaching the Federal Government of Nigeria how to approach the launching a national airline and pay attention to online business while doing so.
Olumayowa was said to have registered Nigeriaair.com and Nigeriaair.com.ng and all related domains and put a whopping N24 million price on the account.
It will be recalled that on Wednesday, June 18, the Nigerian Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika unveiled the name and logo of the new National Carrier, Nigeria Air at the Farnborough International Airshow in London.
Speaking at the unveiling event, attended by prospective investors, airline manufacturers, strategic partners and government delegates, the minister revealed that the Nigerian government owns only a meagre 5% equity of Nigeria Air, therefore, it would be run as a private entity. An investment position many Nigerians are yet to understand.
Though some social commentators are of the opinion that by virtue of Section 26 of the Nigeria 1999 Constitution (as amended), Olumayowa cannot hold the federal government of Nigeria to ransom.
Commenting on twitter, @awolamFX wrote, ”When the legal chips are down, he’ll lose those names unless the govt isnt interested. He does not and cannot own the “Nigeria Air” trademark which is basically a sovereign entity. You cannot just register “cocacola.whatever” just because you found the domain (you might get sued)”.
