President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the historic appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director‑General of the Nigerian Law School, making her the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.

Her appointment, announced on January 6, 2026, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, will take effect on January 10, 2026 and runs for a four‑year term.

Odusote, 54, currently serves as Deputy Director‑General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the law school. She succeeds Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9 after eight years of service.

A seasoned legal educator, Dr. Odusote earned her LL.B and LL.M degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, with research interests in public law and the administration of justice.

Since joining the law school in 2001, she has held key academic and administrative positions, including head of the academic department, director of academics, and head of campus.

In her new role, Odusote will oversee academic leadership, administrative management, and the strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across all campuses. She will also represent the institution in key engagements with legal bodies such as the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.

Her appointment is widely seen as a milestone for gender representation in Nigerian legal education.
