Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of extracting ₦10 million from him prior to his release following a November 2024 arrest.

Speaking during a recent interview on the Trending podcast, Oladips said officials from the EFCC raided his estate around 3 a.m. last year, arresting him and other residents in a swoop over alleged internet fraud.

After five days in custody, he claims the agency found no incriminating evidence linking him to fraud.

Instead, he was asked if he paid taxes. “They didn’t find anything on me… and they still collected ₦10 million before they released me,” he said.

The rapper described his detention as harrowing, saying: “They just packed us there like sardines and gave us nonsense food… Nigeria just happened to me.”

He also revealed that fellow entertainer Zlatan Ibile sent him food during the ordeal.

When asked whether he intends to take legal action against the EFCC, Oladips said he would not, citing the complexity and likely financial burden of the process: “Who is my father now? At the end of the day… it’s just me and my truth.”

The EFCC has not publicly responded to the rapper’s allegations. The lack of official comment leaves unanswered questions about the conduct of the raid, the grounds for his detention, and the legality of the alleged payment.

Legal analysts say that if verified, Oladips’ claims could point to serious issues in the enforcement practices of the EFCC, particularly regarding detention without charge and the coercion of funds.
