Okada Riders Clash: Police Restore Normalcy To Iyana Iba-LASU Axis

Normalcy has been restored to the Iyana Iba and Ojo areas of Lagos State following an early morning clash between the Okada riders and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Recall BlackBox Nigeria reported that there was a riot in Iyana-Iba, Ojo Axis where the Lagos State University (LASU) is situated, spreading to Alaba-Rago area — directly opposite LASU — and the popular Volks bus stop.

Residents fled for safety as sporadic gunshots rented the air, vehicles were equally burned in the process.

However, spokesman for Lagos State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement said normalcy had been restored to the affected areas.

According to the PPRO, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional police personnel in the area to maintain law and order.

“The Command wishes to debunk the rumours that the disagreement, not violence as being peddled in the social media, was between some ethnic groups. Without mincing words, the incident has no ethic colouration whatsoever but a mere conflict between transport unions and their okada units on ticketing and increment in tariff,” the statement added.
