Veteran actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, is set to crown his illustrious 60-year journey in the entertainment industry with the release of a new film titled Her Excellency.

The 72-year-old icon, whose career began in 1964, has been a pioneering force in the Yoruba film industry as an actor, director, and producer.

From his humble beginnings with the Young Concert Party theatre troupe led by the legendary Ojo Ladipo, Salami rose to prominence, eventually taking over leadership of the group after Ladipo’s death.

Oga Bello starred in Ajani Ogun, the first-ever Yoruba-language film, and produced his debut movie Ogun Ajaye in 1985, solidifying his place as a cultural trailblazer.

To commemorate this rare milestone, his son, actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo, announced the premiere of Her Excellency, a film described as a tribute to Oga Bello’s artistry and enduring passion for the craft.

“Today, I stand with immense pride, gratitude, and joy as I celebrate my father — my mentor, my hero — as he marks 60 years of unwavering excellence in filmmaking,” Femi said in a tribute posted on social media.

“What better way to honour this incredible milestone than with the release of his latest masterpiece.”

Her Excellency is set to premiere on June 29, 2025, and will be released in cinemas nationwide on July 4.

Femi added, “This moment isn’t just for him — it’s for every dreamer, every creative, every artist who dares to build, to sacrifice, to endure. Daddy, your legacy lights the path for generations.”

Salami’s six-decade contribution to Nigerian cinema has influenced generations of filmmakers and performers, particularly within the Yoruba film landscape.

His legacy continues to inspire and shape the future of Nollywood.
