OFFICIAL: Arsenal signs Jesus from Manchester City

Brazilian striker, Gabriel Jesus has joined Arsenal from Manchester City in a deal said to be worth £45m.

After nearly six months of talks with Jesus’ representative, the Gunners were finally able to recruit the 25-year-old as their fourth signing of the summer following the additions of Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos.

Jesus will wear the No 9 shirt which was previously win by Alexandre Lacazette, who left for Lyon on a free transfer.

With Manchester City signing striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, the Brazilian was unlikely to get regular minutes at the Etihad Stadium and opted to move to a Premier League rival.

Speaking about the signing, Arsenal technical director Edu said, “We are delighted that we have secured the transfer of Gabriel. Everyone who knows football well, knows the qualities of Gabriel Jesus.

“Gabriel is a player who we have admired for a long time now. He is 25 years old and an established Brazil international who has consistently demonstrated that he is a player at a very high level. We look forward to seeing him join up with his new teammates ahead of the new season. We all welcome Gabriel to Arsenal.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said he is very excited that club signed like Jesus. “This is a position that’s been on our radar for a long time now and we have managed to get a player that we all wanted, so I’m really happy,” he said.

During his five seasons in Manchester City, Jesus scored 95 goals in his 236 appearances across all competitions and won four Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup thrice.
