‘Odun N Lo Sopin’ Singer Deborah Fasoyin Breaks Silence, Debunks Death Rumours

Veteran Nigerian gospel singer Deborah Fasoyin has dismissed widespread rumours circulating on social media claiming that she had died.

The 86-year-old singer, popularly known for the evergreen Yoruba gospel song Odun n Lo Sopin, reassured fans that she is alive and in good health, describing the reports as false and misleading.

In a video addressing the speculation, Fasoyin said: “I’m hale and hearty. What you are seeing on Facebook is fake.”

She added that she believes she will continue to live in sound health and “finish strong.”

The rumour began trending online after several social media posts circulated with her photograph accompanied by “RIP” captions, prompting many fans and followers to begin sending condolence messages.

Her son, Korede Fasoyin, also dismissed the claims, insisting that the veteran gospel musician is alive. According to him, the family began receiving numerous calls from both within and outside Nigeria after the false report spread.

“My mother is alive. The news of her death is fake. We are already doing a video for her to speak,” he said while reacting to the viral claims.

Deborah Fasoyin, widely known as Mama Fasoyin, is a respected gospel singer within the Christ Apostolic Church and has remained influential in Nigerian gospel music for decades.

Her famous song Odun n Lo Sopin is a reflective hymn often sung toward the end of the year and has become a staple in many Nigerian churches and Christian gatherings.

The veteran singer recently celebrated her 86th birthday on March 1, 2026, further highlighting that the viral reports of her death were unfounded.

Fans and members of the gospel music community have since expressed relief after the clarification, flooding social media with prayers and goodwill messages for the respected singer.
