The Yoruba Council Worldwide, the apex Yoruba indigenous organization, has declared that it will no longer recognize any chieftaincy titles conferred on former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo by any monarchs in Yoruba Land, as it asked the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola to withdraw from him the title, Balogun of Owu Kingdom.

This was made known in a press statement released by the council on Wednesday.

This declaration comes after Obasanjo refused to apologize for his disparaging comments about the Yoruba Obas on September 15, 2023, at Iseyin, Oyo State.

The Yoruba Council Worldwide had earlier demanded an apology within three days, which Obasanjo ignored.

The Yoruba Council Worldwide has accused Obasanjo of making disrespectful statements at the commissioning of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus.

The organization has also stated that it will commence strict legal action at a court of competent jurisdiction for defamation and scandalous libel.

The Yoruba Council Worldwide has therefore vowed to mobilize all market women, youths, and leaders of thoughts for onward sanitization and compliance to its declaration.
