Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former President, celebrated his 88th birthday in grand style on March 5, 2025.
The event, held at The Delborough Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, was attended by top dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Traditional rulers, business moguls, and socialites also graced the occasion.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid tribute to Obasanjo, describing him as an “extraordinary leader and statesman” whose contributions to Nigeria’s development remain significant.
Tinubu acknowledged Obasanjo’s decades of service, highlighting his role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape, ending the Nigerian Civil War, and promoting democracy.
Obasanjo has remained an influential figure in national and global affairs, earning him the description as a “global peace ambassador and troubleshooter”.
In celebration of his birthday, Obasanjo also released two new books, “Lest we forget: Slavery, Slave Trade, Emancipation and Reparation” and “Nigeria: Past and the Future”.
