Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, following the sudden resignation of Mojisola Meranda. Meranda, who made history as the first female Speaker in Lagos State, stepped down after just 49 days in office, paving the way for Obasa’s dramatic return.

The development marks the end of a tumultuous period that saw Obasa impeached in January over allegations of poor leadership, abuse of office, and intimidation of colleagues. Despite his rejection of the impeachment process, Obasa has now been given a second chance.

According to sources, Meranda’s resignation was facilitated by a reconciliation meeting brokered by notable All Progressives Congress leaders, including former governors Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, and Akinwunmi Ambode. President Bola Tinubu is said to have directed the intervention, which aimed to resolve the leadership crisis that had rocked the Assembly.

In his remarks after being reinstated, Obasa called for unity and love, assuring Lagosians that the Assembly would prioritize their interests. “We want to assure Lagosians that we have resolved and determined to serve their interest and protect their interest always,” he said.

Obasa also praised his colleagues and expressed confidence in their ability to work together in harmony. “Today is not the day for speech making, but to celebrate my colleagues and thank them for all they have been doing. I am sure we will continue to work together in peace, love, and harmony.”

The reinstatement of Obasa has brought an end to the leadership crisis that had threatened to destabilize the Assembly. As the lawmakers move forward, they will be focused on serving the interests of Lagosians and restoring stability to the Assembly.
