Oba Sejiro James, the Aholu of Kweme Kingdom, has made a passionate appeal to the government to urgently address the persistent electricity issue plaguing his kingdom.
The lack of reliable power supply has severely impacted the daily lives of his people, hindering economic growth, education, healthcare, and overall well-being.
In an exclusive interview with BlackBox Nigeria, the ruler made it known to the government, lack of electricity in the kingdom which has disrupt many economic activities and the livelihood of people.
“The people of Kweme Kingdom deserve a stable power supply, as electricity is essential for economic growth, education, healthcare, and overall well-being. It is unacceptable that our communities continue to suffer due to negligence and inaction. We urge the government to treat this issue with the urgency it deserves by implementing lasting solutions to protect and maintain the infrastructure,” Oba Sejiro James said.
According to Punch News, in its investigation published on 23 march,2025, it was revealed that the Kweme Kingdom has been grappling with darkness for months, with the community relying on alternative sources of energy.
The situation has been exacerbated by the repeated vandalization of the power cable near the Igbaji-Seme Bridge, leaving residents without access to electricity.
Oba Sejiro James emphasized that the electricity crisis has crippled local businesses, making it increasingly difficult for residents to sustain their livelihoods.
He urged the government to take decisive action to resolve the issue, citing the importance of electricity for the development and prosperity of Kweme Kingdom.
The monarch’s appeal comes after the Lagos State Government acknowledged the challenges faced by communities in Badagry, including the hinterlands, and pledged to address the issue.
However, Oba Sejiro James stressed that immediate action is necessary to alleviate the suffering of his people.
The people of Kweme Kingdom are eagerly awaiting the government’s response to Oba Sejiro James’ appeal, hoping for a swift resolution to the electricity crisis that has plagued their community for far too long.
