Oba Akiolu Finally Speaks on Ooni of Ife Snub

Over the last couple of days, the gist on the lips of most people has been the scandalous snub the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu gave the younger but highly rated Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

While the Nigerian Social Media space has been thrown into a frenzy with multiple backlash for the Lagos Monarch, the Ooni himself has stated that he still hold Oba Akiolu in high regard.

BlackBox Nigeria also observed that some others have also come up with several excuses to absorb the retired police chief of any wrongdoing with many claiming he is partially blind and suffering from glaucoma which was why he didnt know it was the Ooni he snubbed.

However, the Oba of Lagos has finally reacted to the incident claming he was misconstrued as he never snubbed the Ooni.

In a statement by one of the white cap chiefs of Lagos, Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, the Opeluwa Onido of Lagos, Oba Akiolu claims he greeted the Ooni of Ife in line the cultural provisions in Lagos.

“The sign by Oba Akiolu signifies ‘inu mi, inu e’, the culture of greeting in Lagos, Ajose claims.

He continues ” if Oba Akiolu wanted to ignore, he would have turned his face away from Ooni.

“There is no misunderstanding between both highly revered monarchs in Yorubaland.”

He further disclosed that Lagos culture was no respecter of persons irrespective of status and that was why Akiolu greeted the Ooni tha way.

“As we met it, that is the way we are doing it.

“Kabiyesi Oba Akiolu is trying to bring back the old pattern, the old culture we have left behind.

He also blamed Social Media for fuelling the controversy.

“What happened that day was wrongly speculated by the social media to disrupt peace and order and misinterpret Oba Akiolu’s action.

“We just want to appeal to the social media to stop spreading wrong information.”
