A Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) staffer, Gift Eseeli, has been apprehended by operatives of the Man O’ War Railway Command for allegedly stealing several lengths of 50mm armoured signal cables along the Warri-Itakpe Train Service corridor.

According to a statement by NRC Acting Spokesman Callistus Unyimadu, the suspect was caught at Rafa Yard along the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor, and the stolen items were recovered intact.

The NRC handed over the suspect and the stolen items to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect had removed the cables from trackside installations before being intercepted by vigilant officers led by Mr. Williams Agiake.

NRC Managing Director Dr. Kayode Opeifa emphasized that railway assets are national assets and that acts of vandalism endanger passengers’ safety and sabotage the country’s infrastructure development.

He vowed to prosecute anyone found culpable of vandalism, including NRC workers, without exceptions.
