Fresh reports has it that contrary to earlier reports that a Police officer shot dead a tanker driver on Creek Road (not Burma Road)Apapa, it was indeed a container driver that was shot before his colleagues fought back.
According to a report by Tolulope Ogunjobi of TVC News, the rancour started between the driver and the officer who later ran into Sterling Bank for safety when other container drivers arrived at the scene.
The reporter spoke with the Manager of Folawiyo Deport which is directly opposite the burnt banks. He stated that the container drivers were on the queue on the way leading to the port.
The manager disclosed that tanker drivers who lined up at the front of the deport never had issues with the Police and as regards Wednesday incident, they had no hand in the fracas.
He stated that the deport was forced to stop loading of trucks with petroleum products when fire was started in order to prevent extension of the fire.
It will be recalled that violence broke out in that part of Apapa area of Lagos on Wednesday following the death of a driver who was shot in the head by an officer alleged to be attached to one of the banks.
The Creek Road houses about four banks including FCMB, EcoBank but the irate mob alleged to be made up of container drivers burnt Sterling Bank plc and Diamond bank plc.
Lagos Police Command spokesperson, Famous Cole disclosed that the killer cop has been arrested and taken into custody along with 18 other people suspected to be among the mob that burnt the banks.
