Nollywood Launches Its First-Ever Game: Aki and Pawpaw Epic Run

Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, has recently unveiled its very first game on digital stores.

Developed by filmmaker Charles Okpaleke, the game adaptation of Temple Run, titled ‘Epic Run’, features Nollywood stars Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme, popularly known as Aki & Pawpaw, as the lead characters.

The game follows the story of the dynamic duo as they embark on an adventurous run to escape trouble, similar to the original game of a similar name.

The game boasts graphics that feature the faces of the two actors and also appears to have been voiced by them.

Okpaleke first announced the development of the game in 2021, stating that it was in its final stages of development.

“Say hello to the first Nollywood game app!!! Aki and Pawpaw Epic Run. A Play Network Studios initiative,” Okpaleke wrote alongside a video demo.

Okpaleke’s studio had previously produced a remake of an Aki and Pawpaw movie in 2021 after acquiring the rights to their brand.

The movie grossed N30 million in its opening weekend and eventually landed a licensing deal with Netflix.

The iconic duo made their acting debut in the 2002 movie Aki Na Ukwa, and have since become household names in Nigeria, with successful careers spanning over two decades.

The launch of ‘Epic Run’ marks a significant milestone for Nollywood, as it ventures into the world of gaming for the first time. The game promises to be a delightful experience for fans of Aki and Pawpaw, as well as for gaming enthusiasts.
