Nollywood Actress Aunty Ajara Dies After Prolonged Illness

Nollywood actress Aunty Ajara has died after a prolonged illness, her family and colleagues confirmed on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

The Yoruba film actress whose real name is Ajara Lasisi was pronounced dead in the early hours of the day following weeks of public concern over her health, which had drawn widespread attention and support from within and outside the Nigerian film industry.

Her death was confirmed in a video shared by actor Tobi Oladele Teemony, showing the moment her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, announced the passing of the actress.

In a statement accompanying the video, the family said Aunty Ajara died overnight after what they described as a “long and courageous battle with illness.”

The statement expressed gratitude to Nigerians and supporters around the world who offered prayers, financial assistance and encouragement during her hospitalization. It also urged members of the public to stop sending money to the account earlier shared for her medical support, noting that the funds were no longer needed.

Aunty Ajara was known for her supporting roles in Yoruba-language films and television productions, earning recognition for her screen presence and contributions to Nollywood’s indigenous movie sector.

Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, fans and industry stakeholders, many of whom have described her death as a painful loss to the film community.

She is survived by family members. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
