As a result of the fall out between the Federal Government and organised labour over the minimum wage increase, the Nigerian Labour Congress yesterday has threatened a complete shutdown of the Lagos Airport and other facilities in the state.
This is coming after the directive to embark on a nationwide strike by the leadership of the labour union.
Addressing journalists yesterday during a protest by aggrieved workers, the NLC vice president, Amaechi Asugwuni affirmed that the decision to embark on the strike was according to the resolve of the Union’s leadership.
The protest held by the aggrieved workers is coming less than a day after reaching a deadlock in a meeting with the Federal Government and the leadership of the NLC to strike a conclusion over the new minimum wage.
Also, the NLC has ordered all its members and associate unions to commence and continue observing the industrial action.
Asugwuni while accusing the Federal Government of being insensitive to the needs and denying workers an opportunity to an enhanced wage across the federation reiterated that the workers in Lagos State would ensure full compliance with the industrial action.
The striking workers are demanding an immediate upward review of the minimum wage from the current N18,000 to between N50,000 and N65,000.
