In a remarkable act of giving back, nine alumni of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG), have funded and completed the renovation of the faculty’s Annex Lecture Hall, dedicating the upgraded facility to retired Supreme Court Justice George Adesola Oguntade.

The project was confirmed in a video obtained by BlackBox Nigeria which shows the unveiling of the state-of-the-art infrastructure on February 13, 2026.

This reflects a growing culture of alumni engagement within the institution, as former students step forward to strengthen the infrastructure that once shaped their academic journeys.

The renovation was spearheaded and financed by a consortium of alumni: Olugbenga O. Ajala, Esq.; Hon. Dayo Bush-Alebiosu; Olayinka M. Ajenifuja, Esq.; Michael Ojomo, Esq.; Olukayode Adegbegbola, Esq.; Afolakemi Ogunde, Esq.; Olufemi Oyewole, SAN; Esv. Omotayo Oyewole; and Arc. Tosin Adeoye.

Their collective intervention transformed the annex from a worn-out facility into a modern learning space equipped with improved seating, upgraded lighting, refurbished interiors and enhanced amenities designed to support effective teaching and learning.

The annex was dedicated in honour of Justice Oguntade in recognition of his contributions to Nigeria’s legal system and his enduring influence on generations of lawyers. A former Justice of the Supreme Court, Oguntade is widely respected for his jurisprudence and service to the nation.

Speakers at the unveiling described the gesture as both symbolic and inspirational celebrating excellence while reinforcing the responsibility of successful graduates to uplift their alma mater.

Representatives of the university management commended the alumni for their foresight and generosity, noting that partnerships between graduates and the university are increasingly critical in bridging infrastructure gaps.

Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Abiola Sanni, SAN, described the project as a significant boost to the faculty’s academic environment, adding that the renovated annex will better serve students undergoing rigorous legal training.

The unveiling ceremony attracted members of the judiciary, legal practitioners and academic leaders, underscoring the broader legal community’s support for initiatives that promote educational development.

As students begin to utilise the newly renovated annex, the project stands as a powerful reminder that alumni giving rooted in gratitude and legacy can leave a lasting impact on future generations.
