Nigeria’s Youths Minister, Sunday Dare attacked alongside Ogbomoso monarch following Police killings
The Nigerian Minister for Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare was moments ago attacked by a mob consisting of angry youths in his hometown of Ogbomoso in Oyo state. Dare was attacked alongside the Soun of Ogbomoso in the monarch’s palace while holding a meeting of with the traditional leadership of the town.
The angry youths whom it was suspected were protesting the killing and injury of their fellow agitators at a #EndSARS protest in the town in Saturday, attacked the meeting throwing stones and other objects.
Dare, the Soun, Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi and palace chiefs had to be taken to safety by men of the DSS and the Nigeria Police on ground. The mob however gained entry into the palace destroying furnitures.
On Saturday during the protest for the disbandment of SARS in Ogbomoso, policemen attached to the town’s command shot and killed a young bystander, Jimoh Isiaq while several other protesters were seriously injured and have been on admission at a hospital in the town.
Sunday Dare who got into Ogbomoso from Abuja earlier on however insisted that the attack was not carried out by protesters. He said this was not the work of youths or students but “miscreants and thugs who saw a window of opportunity in the protest.”
As at the time of writing this report, both Sunday Dare and the Soun of Ogbomoso as well as the chiefs and leaders who were present during the attack were reported to be unharmed.
