The newly appointed Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) Maj.-Gen. Samuel Adebayo on Friday, took over the leadership of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
Adebayo was a former director at the DIA and was Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI) at the Nigerian Army before his appointment.
He took over leadership of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) from the Deputy CDI, Maj. Gen. Gbolahan Oyefesobi who acted for a few days following the retirement of the former CDI, Air Vice Marshal Muhammed Usman.
Oyefesobi handed over to Adebayo at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, on Friday.
The CDI expressed confidence in the capacity of the agency, and promised to build on the achievements of his predecessor.
He added that though, the security agencies have achieved a lot in tackling insecurity in the country, much more could still be done.
“I know that the task ahead is daunting but clearly achievable. I solicit your support and suggestions as we settle down to work”, Adebayo said.
He noted that the DIA has raised the bar in intelligence statecraft.
“I want to see a DIA with cutting edge capacity to deliver its mandate to the Nigerian people,” he added.
Adebayo said his leadership improve the agency’s technical capacity and prioritise core intelligence in support of ongoing operations and other engagements.
He also pledged human capacity development with focus on staff specialisation for optimal output and enhancement of the agency’s specialist centres.
