Nigeria’s female relay team wins gold, sets new African record

Team Nigeria has claimed its 11th gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

This came moments after world record holder, Tobi Amusan clinched the gold medal in the women’s 100 meters hurdles and emerged two-time Commonwealth Games champion, while setting a new record of 12.30 seconds.

The quartet of Amusan, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Grace Nwokocha came first in the women’s 4×100 meters relay. They won the gold medal in a spectacular style, after setting a new African record with a time of 42.10 seconds.

In the men’s category, Nigeria clinched the bronze medal, thanks to the quartet of Udo Udodi Onwuzurike, Alaba Akintola, Favour Ashe and Raymond Ekevwo who finished in 38.81 seconds to hold the third place.

Following the victory, Nigeria remains sixth on the Commonwealth Games medal log with 33 medals across different events: 11 gold, 8 silver and 14 bronze medals.
