Their letter submitted to the Nigerian embassy reads;

The President
Federal Republic of Nigeria
State House Abuja
Federal Capital Territory,
Nigeria.

℅ The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Germany
Berlin, Germany

RE: Open Letter regarding recent ENDSARS protests in Nigeria.

Dear President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR,

We are deeply concerned about the reports of flagrant disregard and contempt for human rights in such barbaric ways by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), which have led to global outcry and call for its immediate disbandment.

Although SARS operatives are a unit of the Nigeria Police Force meant to serve and protect, they have become notorious for killing, maiming, extorting and incessant rape of innocent Nigerian citizens, in particular young people.

Therefore, we, the young people in Berlin, Germany call for an immediate and complete disbandment and dissolution of SARS and all its centres across the country, as they have done nothing but cause harm to the lives and properties of innocent Nigerians.

We understand that peace and order must be maintained in Nigeria, however, this goal must be pursued within the framework of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Treaties and Conventions, and global best practices in order to guarantee that citizens’ inalienable rights are not breached.

As you already know, We reject any purported disbandment without a detailed and comprehensive policy direction on this matter. We were deceived with similar rhetorics in 2017, 2018, 2019, and now 2020, yet there have been no real actionable changes to back up those previous pronouncements.

DEMANDS
We believe it is within our rights under the 1999 constitution (as amended) to demand the following, and we hereby make the following demands:

An executive order towards the dissolution of SARS and Police Reforms in Nigeria in addition to a live public address to Nigerians by the president himself.
An open, independent investigation into all Police/SARS-related killings, assaults, unlawfully imprisonment, and rape. We want the culprits arraigned, brought under the law, and prosecuted for their various crimes which include murder, rape, assault, and extortion within a minimum of 14 days.
A public apology and financial compensation to the families of the deceased and other victims.
Immediate release of all arrested protesters.
Improvement in Police welfare and re-training on modern policing.
Enforcing all court orders and judgments currently obtained against the Nigeria Police Force, including, but not limited to financial compensations and sanctions to erring Police officers

Based on the above, permit us to cite the under-listed instruments that guarantee our demands:

According to 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria(as amended):
Sec.33(1): “Every person has a right to life, and no one shall be deprived intentionally of his life, save in execution of the sentence of a court in respect of a criminal offence of which he has been found guilty in Nigeria”.
34.(1) : “Every individual is entitled to respect for the dignity of his person, and accordingly –
(a) no person shall be subject to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment”
37. “The privacy of citizens, their homes, correspondence, telephone conversations and telegraphic communications is hereby guaranteed and protected”.
44.(1) “No moveable property or any interest in an immovable property shall be taken possession of compulsorily and no right over or interest in any such property shall be acquired compulsorily in any part of Nigeria except in the manner and for the purposes prescribed by a law that, among other things”

United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNUDHR)
Article (17) : “Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others. (2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property”.
Article 12 “No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks”.
Article 9 : “No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile”.
Article 5 : “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”.
Article 3 : “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person”.

Stating all these reasons, while we strongly urge you to swiftly address each and every of our demands in due course, we shall continue to protest the inhumane treatment and profiling of Nigerian youth by security agencies in Nigeria. #EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutality.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and are hopeful that the necessary changes are made.

Please accept the assurances of our regards.

Yours sincerely,

For: Nigerian citizens living In Berlin.
