Several Nigerian universities have commended the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for his transparency and accountability in addressing the technical issues that marred the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

During a press conference in Abuja, Professor Oloyede openly acknowledged the shortcomings in the examination process, attributing them to lapses within JAMB’s operations, BlackBox Nigeria reported.

He took full responsibility for the challenges faced by candidates, particularly those in Lagos and the South East, and announced that over 173,000 affected candidates would have the opportunity to retake the examination.

In solidarity, academic institutions across the country have praised Professor Oloyede’s forthrightness.

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) described him as Worthy Ambassador and his actions as a “commendable display of leadership,” and emphasizing the importance of accountability in public service.

Similarly, the Lagos State University, (LASU), highlighted the registrar’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process.

Professor Oloyede’s proactive approach has been seen as a positive step towards restoring confidence in the UTME system.

By acknowledging the issues and taking decisive action to rectify them, he has set a precedent for transparency and responsibility within Nigeria’s educational institutions.

The decision to allow affected candidates to retake the examination is expected to mitigate the impact of the technical glitches and ensure that students are assessed fairly.

As preparations for the rescheduled examinations commence, universities and candidates alike are hopeful that the lessons learned from the 2025 UTME will lead to improvements in future assessments.
