The Nigerian Navy has dismissed and sentenced Lieutenant S.N. Obini to three years in prison for engaging in an affair with a fellow officer’s wife, in what is now one of the most high-profile disciplinary cases within the military in recent years.

The judgment was delivered by a Special Court Martial, which found Obini guilty of multiple offenses, including “scandalous conduct,” deceiving a witness, and acts prejudicial to good order and military discipline.

The offenses, considered serious breaches of the Navy’s code of conduct, led to Obini’s dismissal from service with effect from November 23, 2024.

His sentence was formally executed at a ceremony on August 29, 2025, at the Nigerian Navy Institute of Technology (NNIT) Parade Ground in Sapele, Delta State.

The Nigerian Navy emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, especially actions that threaten the core values of discipline, loyalty, and professionalism within the ranks.

Military officials say the ruling serves as a deterrent and reaffirms the Navy’s commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability in its operations.
