A Nigerian lady identified as Ejide Risikat Akinbiyi as taken to Facebook to celebrate earning her PhD and the sacrifices she had to undergo to achieve the set goal.
According to her, she had 2 beautiful girls while she was pursuing her career and lost a job for a while, she took another job and merge the responsibility of a full time job with keeping the home and schooling together. She went on to encourage all women never to give up on their dreams , but they should endeavor to push harder.
She noted that the journey took longer than she had imagined, but upon reflection, she is glad she weathered the storm.
Below is her full statement:
”On August 18, 2020, I was hooded and celebrated (albeit via Zoom) in what marked the completion of my Doctoral Programme in #Marketing with a specialization in Strategic Marketing at the Babcock University.
I am thankful for God’s grace and the support of my Family, Professors, Supervisor, Mentors, Colleagues, Friends, and the #LagosStateScholarshipBoard.
The journey took longer than I had imagined. But upon reflection, I am glad to have seen this through.
During the period, I had 2 beautiful girls. I was out of one job for a while. Resumed into another. And had to merge the responsibility of a full-time job with keeping the home front and schooling altogether.
Did I find this easy? Not at all. Did I have the urge to quit? Many times. But I kept going.
I am excited for what the future holds and open to #Consulting and #ResearchCollaboration in the #VirtualMarketSpace.
I want to encourage all women out there to never ever give up on their dreams. It may take time, be slow, and tough with guilt running through you every now and then. Hold on to the conviction that it is your race and you will get to the finish line. Like me, you might sometimes take solace in the words of Dean Karnazes – “ Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.”
