Nigerian Customs Debunks Allegations Of Poisoned Rice Distribution

The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, has categorically denied allegations that seized rice distributed by the command led to multiple deaths, including a soldier.

In a statement issued on May 11, 2025, by the command public relations officer, Isah Sulaiman, the command described the claims as entirely false, misleading, and baseless.

Recall that viral claims of poisoned rice which led to the death of many in Badagry and some part of Lagos was reportedly released by Nigerian Customs Service.

According to the NCS, the narrative surrounding the alleged poisoned rice is unfounded and lacks any evidence to support the claims.

The command emphasized its commitment to transparency and due process in disposing of seized goods, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and extant laws.

The NCS urged the public to disregard the story and refrain from spreading false information that could incite fear or tarnish the image of security agencies.

Under the leadership of Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, PhD, the Seme Area Command remains committed to its mandate of revenue generation, suppressing smuggling, and facilitating legitimate trade.

The command expressed disappointment that some individuals claiming to be journalists would spread baseless and malicious accusations, rather than upholding the social responsibility of their profession.

The NCS reassured the public of its professionalism and responsibility in carrying out its duties, in accordance with government fiscal policies and laws.
