The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) crew members aboard the C-130 aircraft (913), who were earlier forced to land in Burkina Faso for allegedly violating the country’s airspace, have safely returned to the Air Force Base in Accra, Ghana.
This was confirmed in a statement by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar on his official X handle, who noted that the situation was resolved through diplomatic engagement.
“I can confirm that the pilots and crew of NAF C-130 (913) have safely arrived at the Air Force Base in Accra,” the minister said.
Earlier this week, the minister led a delegation to Burkina Faso to meet the junta leader over the seized aircraft and crew members of the Nigerian Air Force.
He praised the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in resolving the issue, saying, “The successful outcome reflects Nigeria’s commitment to diplomacy, regional cooperation, and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in resolving sensitive matters through dialogue.”
The circumstances surrounding the airspace violation are still being clarified, but the swift diplomatic intervention is being seen as a testament to growing regional cooperation in West Africa.
