At the Ongoing 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, Nigeria’s contingent delivered an outstanding performance, winning a total of six medals across various events with a total of 12 players in 2 sports(athletics and Table Tennis)
Below are Nigerian Medalists at the ongoing 2024 Summer Paralympic Games
1. Onyinyechi Mark
Onyinyechi Mark broke the Paralympic record in the women’s 61kg powerlifting category by lifting 145kg, securing Nigeria’s first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
2. Isau Ogunkunle
Nigeria’s Isau Ogunkunle secured a bronze medal in the Men’s Singles Class 4 at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, marking Nigeria’s first singles Paralympic medal since Sydney 2000. Despite falling short in the semifinals to Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Kim Young-Gun, Ogunkunle’s journey included victories over reigning champion Abdullah Ozturk and Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Maxime Thomas.
3. Flora Ugwunwa
Flora Ugwunwa won a silver medal in the women’s Javelin F54 category with a throw of 19.26m at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. This achievement adds to her consecutive Paralympic medals, including golds from Rio and Tokyo.
4. Esther Nworgu
Esther Nworgu also won the silver medal in the Para Powerlifting up to 41kg category with a lift of 118kg, breaking the Paralympics record twice in her final attempts.
5. Bose Omolayo
Bose Omolayo won the silver medal in the women’s up to 79kg Para Powerlifting event by lifting 145kg, despite facing injury challenges during the competition. Her achievement adds to her career, which includes gold medals in previous Paralympic Games in Rio and Tokyo,
6. Eniola Bolaji
Eniola Bolaji made history as the first African to win a Paralympic medal in Badminton, defeating her Ukrainian opponent in straight sets.
