The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel alert following escalating migrant-related riots in the United Kingdom.
In a statement released earlier today, they highlighted unrest sparked by the tragic deaths of three young girls at a concert.
The incident triggered widespread demonstrations, notably by far-right groups, sometimes leading to chaos.
“There is an increased risk of violence and disorder due to recent riots in the UK, linked to the deaths of three young girls at a concert,” the statement read.
Citizens are advised to avoid political processions, protests, rallies, or marches, stay away from crowded areas and large gatherings, remain vigilant, and report any relevant information to the Nigerian High Commission via email at [email protected] or by phone at +442078391244.
Protests have erupted in various British towns and cities after the tragic knife attack at a children’s dance class in Southport, northwest England, which resulted in three deaths.
The Protests spread to Liverpool, Bristol, and Manchester, resulting in numerous arrests, shop vandalism, looting, and injuries to police officers.
The incidents have been exploited by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups spreading misinformation. Police clarified the attacker was born in Britain, not an immigrant or radical Islamist, and it’s not treated as terrorism.
This has made British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemn what he described as “far-right thuggery” and assured that law enforcement would handle perpetrators following days of violent protests against immigration, including attacks on hotels”I utterly condemn the far-right violence we’ve seen this weekend,” Starmer said.
