The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the continued expansion of its Contactless Biometric Passport Application System to several countries, including the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil, as part of its phased global rollout.

According to a statement released on Sunday on its official X handle, signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the move is part of efforts by the NIS under the leadership of Comptroller General Kemi Nanna Nandap to modernize passport application services, particularly for Nigerians in the Diaspora.

The new system enables Nigerians to renew their passports without physically visiting any passport centers for biometric enrollment.

The service is currently accessible via the NIS Mobile app on the Google Play Store, with an iOS version expected to launch soon.

An enhanced version of the app for both Android and iOS users is also in development, aimed at improving user experience and accessibility.

As part of the next phase of implementation, the rollout will take effect on the following dates: United States – April 11, 2025, Mexico – April 14, 2025, Jamaica – April 14, 2025, Brazil – April 14, 2025

With this expansion, the contactless passport system is now available across Canada, the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil, Europe, and parts of Asia.

The NIS noted that the system is yet to be introduced in Australia and Nigeria, with a future rollout date to be announced.

“The Service remains committed to innovative and efficient service delivery to Nigerians anywhere in the world,” the statement said.
