The President of Guinea-Bissau, Sissoco Embalo has sacked three ministers barely a day after he appointed them into his cabinet.
According to AFP, the ministers lost their jobs over their failure to show up for their swearing-in ceremony. They include education minister Tcherno Djalo, natural resources minister Fernando Dias, and energy and industry minister Mario Fambe.
The trio did not take part in the swearing-in of the new government on Friday and “provided no explanation to justify their absence”, the presidency said in a statement.
On Thursday, Embalo named a new 36-member government, with members selected from political formations such as Social Renewal Party (PPR), Movement for Democratic Alternance (MADEM-G15), and Assembly of the United People – Democratic Party of Guinea-Bissau (APU-PDGB).
This came weeks after he dissolved Guinea-Bissau’s parliament and announced early parliamentary elections to resolve a long-running political crisis.
The government is tasked with preparations for the elections billed to hold on December 18.
